15 Years: A Journey of Growth, Conflict, and Closing a Chapter
Okay, fine—it’s not exactly 15 years. But let’s be honest: "13 and a bit years" just doesn’t have the same ring to it. And truthfully? It felt like 15. Maybe even longer.
It all began over 13 years ago when I first walked through the doors of what was then Global Personals. My starting gig? Retentions Representative. My job was to field over 150 calls a day from members eager to cancel their subscriptions. The goal? Retain more than 20% and hit that top-tier commission. For a 22-year-old, that kind of money was huge. My friends were amazed. Hell, I was amazed.
I had joined a company of just 73 people and was hooked from day one. The energy was electric. The owners were absolutely crushing it, and the team? Let’s just say they knew how to have a good time. Within two weeks, I found myself at a boat party on the Thames, where some activities in the bathroom were... well, let’s just call it "questionable"❄️. This place was wild.
As time went on, I gravitated to where I really wanted to be: the B2B Partner Team. That’s where I hit my stride—collaborating with clients, analyzing data, and finding ways to drive business growth. This role wasn’t just a job; it became the foundation of my career. Global Personals (later Venntro) had an incredible knack for developing talent. So many of my colleagues have gone on to amazing careers: directors at US-listed ad-tech firms, leaders at top UK telecom companies, and beyond. Venntro alumni are everywhere, doing brilliant things.
What I learned during that time—the art and science of driving and monetizing online traffic, whether through subscriptions, sales, or data insights—has been invaluable. And learning it at a place as unique and intense as Venntro? That’s an experience you can’t replicate.
But let’s not sugarcoat it. Alongside the wild parties came real challenges.
We lost multiple payment processors (yes, plural).
We struggled to break into certain markets.
We faced scrutiny from regulatory bodies.
The list goes on, and all of it eventually led to the end of my time at Venntro—a chapter I’ll dive into in my next post. For now, though, here’s where I stand: I’ve taken those years of experience in digital marketing, people coaching, and business strategy, and I’ve channeled them into a new chapter. Helping other businesses grow is where I thrive now.
Stay tuned—the story’s just getting started.
